Infant & Toddler Occupational Therapy
If you think your baby might be experiencing developmental delays, sensory processing difficulties, or movement milestone delays, consider the option of occupational therapy. Therapy from the caring professionals at RISE Pediatric Therapies (RPT) can make a considerable difference in helping little ones reach age-appropriate developmental milestones. We offer in-home and community early intervention services for children and families, as well as therapy clinics for developmental disabilities (TDD). We serve Mesa, Surprise, Tucson, and their surrounding areas in Arizona. Contact us at (480) 295-4925 for more information or get started now.
What Skills Does Infant OT Address?
RISE Pediatric Therapies, we use a team-based model with a parent/caregiver coaching interaction style to work on any of the following skills:
- fine motor skills
- appropriate sensory and reflex development
- hand function
- eye-hand coordination, promoting visual tracking
- cognitive skills
- feeding skills
One way to determine if an area needs attention is to determine if it’s affecting development or daily routines and activities. If it is, the OT on your core team might be a good fit to provide support. After discussing your family’s routines and activities, our team might suggest working during your natural playtime routines to incorporate messy play or using developmentally appropriate play to further these skills.

Pediatric Feeding Therapy
Sometimes, a child may not meet age-appropriate feeding milestones. Our therapist can schedule an evaluation to identify possible delays or disorders. We will assess the following skills:
- Ability to consume both solids and liquids. We’ll assess your child’s oral structure and oral motor skills.
- Evaluation of feeding position, behavior, and oral movements to ensure your child is safe for oral eating.
- If necessary, and with physician clearance, we can conduct safe oral trials to develop alternate methods of eating and facilitate a positive relationship with food and eating.
Red Flags
Sensory Feeding Red Flags
To determine if your child could benefit from feeding therapy, review this list and note how many areas of concern might apply to your child. Does your child:
- have difficulty with weight gain/loss?
- demonstrate arching/crying at meals?
- demonstrate gagging, choking, or coughing during meals?
- experience frequent vomiting?
- graze throughout the day (eating every 1-1 ½ hours)?
- avoid all foods from a specific texture or nutritional food group?
- accept less than 20 foods consistently?
- have difficulty transitioning to purees by 10 months of age?
- have difficulty accepting solids by 12 months of age?
- have difficulty transitioning from breast/bottle to a cup by 16 months of age?
- have difficulty weaning off baby food by 16 months of age?
- demonstrate “meltdowns” at meals where it feels like you are fighting about food?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, your child may benefit from feeding therapy.
