Pediatric Feeding Therapy
Introducing new foods can be an exciting time as your baby grows from infancy to toddlerhood and beyond. At RISE Pediatric Therapies (RPT), we’re here for any hiccups along the way. Should your child need support, we provide feeding therapy for chewing and swallowing—and anything else too. We offer in-home and community early intervention services for children and families, as well as therapy clinics for developmental disabilities (TDD). We serve Mesa, Surprise, Tucson, and their surrounding areas in Arizona. Contact us at (480) 295-4925 for more information or get started now.
Feeding Therapy For Kids
Sometimes eating, drinking, and swallowing may not be intuitive for a child. Whether they have a physiological issue or a developmental delay, feeding therapy helps children of all ages to safely and calmly eat an assortment of foods. We can assist children through whatever feeding challenges they are facing:
- Children with cleft palate or other craniofacial differences
- Reflux or gastrointestinal disorders that impact feeding
- Children with neurological conditions that affect motor control
- Weakness in oral muscles affecting the ability to manage food
- Chromosomal abnormalities/genetic disorders
- Difficulty with swallowing, chewing, or biting
- Poor weight gain
- Gagging or vomiting when introduced to new foods
- Aversion to certain textures, smells, and colors of food

Start With an Assessment
At RISE Pediatric Therapies, our children’s feeding therapist will first conduct an *assessment. We check to see if your child is presenting with any of the following:
- Feeding milestone delays.
- The phases of feeding and swallowing.
- Ability to eat foods of different textures, including both liquids and solids.
- Oral movements, behavior, and feeding position to determine if eating is a safe activity for them.
*Please note, we do not diagnose, nor does your child need a diagnosis to receive treatment at RISE Pediatric Therapies.
Treatment for Feeding Delays or Disorders
Treatment may include any of the following:
With physician approval, we’ll conduct oral trials to help your child learn different methods to safely eat and drink.
We want to help your child expand their food palette. To reduce any stress, we’ll slowly introduce new foods, giving your child time to familiarize themselves with the food’s taste, texture, smell, and appearance.
Parents and caregivers are an important part of their child’s team. Together, we’ll brainstorm ideas on how to make mealtime a happy time.
